Barwon Health NAIDOC Week
As part of NAIDOC (National Aborigines and Islanders Day Of Celebration) Week, Barwon Health will host a community celebration on Wednesday, July 9.
Koori children ‘Deadly Dancers’ will kick off proceedings with a traditional dance, followed by local indigenous musicians Mick Ryan and Norm Stanley.
This year’s NAIDOC Week theme is ‘Serving Country: Centenary & Beyond’ and honours all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander men and women who have fought in defence of country. Barwon Health is delighted to have Shona Muir as guest speaker for the event. Shona is the daughter of the late Leo Maxwell Muir – an Aboriginal returned serviceman in Vietnam. Shona will share stories of her father’s rise to the rank of Lance-Bombardier, his early life, and of his participation in the establishment of the Geelong Vietnam Veteran’s Association.
A free sausage sizzle will follow. Everyone welcome.
