International Women’s Day
Empower a woman, empower a nation.
Together we can empower women across the globe.
International Women’s Day is celebrated around the world on March 8th.
Gender inequality remains one of the greatest barriers to women’s empowerment and sustainable development across the world. Women are disproportionately affected by poverty, discrimination and exploitation because of barriers to education and employment and often end up in insecure, low-wage jobs.
While the percentage of women represented in parliaments around the world has doubled in the last twenty years, today, only 23% of all national parliamentarians are women, with just 6.3% female representation in the Pacific region.
By attending an International Women’s Day (IWD) event you are supporting the transformation of the lives of women and girls in our region, for the better.
