NAIDOC Week on the Surf Coast

Sunday, 8 July 2018 - 2:00pm to 4:30pm

Surf Coast Council is hosting a free event in Anglesea for NAIDOC Week 2018. The event will celebrate the invaluable contributions that Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women have made – and continue to – make to our communities, our families, our rich history and to our nation.

Under the theme Because of Her, We Can! we will celebrate NAIDOC Week 2018 with a traditional Welcome to Country presentation and smoking ceremony, and a special guest panel

The panel will celebrate the lives of three local aboriginal women across three generations with:

  • Corrina Eccles (MC)
  • Aunty Colleen Howell
  • Jody Sizer
  • Ebony Hickey

Celebrations will include a live performance by the Deadly Duo and afternoon tea.

As leaders, trailblazers, politicians, activists and social change advocates, Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander women fought and continue to fight for justice, equal rights, rights to country, law and justice, access to education, employment, and to maintain and celebrate culture, language, music and art.
