COGG Selected for Community Activation and Social Isolation (CASI) initiative

The City of Greater Geelong has been selected as the local community connector, lead organisation for the Victorian Government’s new COVID-19 Community Activation and Social Isolation initiative (CASI). The project aims to help people maintain important connections with family, friends and community and to build new social connections during the COVID-19 public health emergency.

The initiative builds on the state-wide existing 1800 COVID-19 hotline, with callers receiving initial emotional support and a needs assessment. They are then referred to the local “Community Connector” who links the help seeker to a network of volunteer support, appropriate services and community programs.

A CASI Local Support Network (LSN) is being established with representatives from key local service providers, currently delivering programs which improve social connectedness in the Geelong region. The LSN will support the CASI initiative by coordinating a local service response, ensuring wrap around community support.

The City will also establish protocols with Volunteering Geelong so that volunteers can be safely mobilized to assist in supporting community members that require improved social connection.
